Static Tinsel

Tinsel is a cost effective way of neutralizing static charges on moving webs and sheets during the printing, folding, con-verting and stacking processes.  Tinsel is a method of “passive” ionization and grounding to minimize problems caused by static such as paper jams, jogging problems, static shocks and contamination.

HOW IT WORKS

By contacting a conductive material, the tinsel will ground the static charge from the material.  On insulative materials, the strands not in contact with the material will provide a ground reference for the high static charge creating ionization at that location.

INSTALLATION

u        Tinsel should be mounted across the moving material prior to the problem area.

u        The material to be neutralized needs to have free air space on both sides.

u        The tinsel must be grounded

u        Thicker materials may require tinsel on both sides of the material.

u        The tinsel should be mounted taut across the material and at a distance so the strands are just barely making contact with the material.

u        Tinsel mounting kits, consisting of mounting springs, are available for ease of installation.

u        Tinsel should be changed when the strands no longer stand out from the central core.

u        Not recommended for hazardous locations.
